There are not many materials over the internet on easy green laundry detergent recipes. However, after spending some quality amount of time on personal research, I succeeded and wanted to share you this easy green laundry detergent recipe.

Now, you might ask yourself: why switch to natural laundry detergent? Well, conventional laundry detergent is loaded with chemicals like phenols, fragrances, sulfates, and more. Many brands have stuffs like petroleum distillates, which are linked to lung disease and cancer. Fragrances in commercial detergents are made of a mix of destructive chemicals.

Fortunately, making your own laundry detergent is a fast process! You only need four basic ingredients and supplies.

  • Ingredients and Supplies
  • One bar of soap
  • Washing soda
  • One cup Borax
  • Cheese grater
  • Metal fork
  • Measuring cup
  • Container (Large enough to hold 4 cups of powder)

Borax and washing soda should be found at your local grocery store. Natural bar soaps are in the organic, beauty, or health sections of the store. They can also be available at online stores.

Do you have any idea what’s in these ingredients? Washing Soda, also called soda ash or sodium carbonate, is made from limestone and common salt. Borax is a naturally occurring mineral made up of water, sodium, oxygen, and boron. It is used in most of the natural soaps available now. However, it is more inexpensive to make yourself.

To make powdered laundry soap:

  • Grate your bar soap with a cheese grater, the finer the better. You can also mix in food processor until finely ground. I prefer Castile Bar Soap because I’m trying to be as natural as possible. Besides, it is preferred by everyone for its exceptional quality.
  • In a large bowl, mix together washing soda, grated soap, and borax. Make sure it blends really well with your fork. If you’ve decides to add in your essential oil, you can.
  • Store in closed container. While these ingredients are eco-friendly and not destructive, you should still keep them out of reach of children. Use 2-3 tablespoons of the powder in your washing machine.

Now that you’ve covered one of the easy green laundry detergent recipes, it should be super easy and inexpensive to make your own laundry detergent at home. You will not notice any added fading or wear and tear on my clothing when you use this powdered laundry detergent recipe.
